Why we built Twirl
We didn't set out to build a company. We set out to plan a wedding.
Both of us went looking for something simple: a place for guests to drop their photos, a link we could send around, maybe an RSVP tool so we weren't chasing people down over text. What we found instead was a category full of confusing pricing tiers, guest caps that quietly kicked in once your list got real, and features that were "included" right up until you actually needed them, at which point they turned into an upgrade prompt.
Nobody could tell us where the photos actually ended up being stored, either. Which, given that these are the photos you'll actually want in ten years (not the professional album, but the ones your friends took mid-toast), felt like a strange thing to be vague about.
So we built the version we wished we could have paid for.
One flat price. Every feature unlocked for everyone, not gated behind a "pro" tier. Unlimited guests, because a hard cap on the people you love is a strange thing to charge extra for. And your media stored somewhere specific and real, in the EU, because "the cloud" isn't an answer, it's a way of avoiding one.
Twirl is what came out of that. It's still early, and we're building it in the open, but the reasoning hasn't changed since the first sketch of it: fair pricing, real quality, and a straight answer about where your photos live.
More on that on our About page. This post is just the short version.
