Group Chat Isn't a Wedding Photo Album

It's the default nobody chooses on purpose: someone creates a WhatsApp group a week before the wedding, "share your photos here!", and by the time the honeymoon's over, that group chat has quietly become the wedding photo album. It wasn't a decision. It just happened, because everyone already had the app open.

It's also, almost always, the worst place those photos could have ended up.

The compression problem

Every major messaging app compresses images and video before sending them, sometimes aggressively. A photo that looked sharp on your cousin's phone can arrive in the group chat at a fraction of its original resolution. You won't notice at the time. You'll notice a year later when you try to print one, and it looks like it was taken on a much older phone than it actually was.

The scattered-thread problem

A wedding group chat isn't a photo album, it's a conversation, with photos mixed in among "what time does it start again," "so happy for you both," and forty replies about the after-party. Finding a specific photo later means scrolling through hundreds of messages that have nothing to do with photos at all. There's no way to sort by who took it, when, or which part of the day it's from.

The ownership problem

Nobody actually owns a group chat. If the person who created it leaves the group, or the app account gets deleted, or the phone gets replaced without a proper backup, the whole thread, and every photo in it, can disappear with no warning and no way to recover it. It's not stored anywhere with your name on it. It's just sitting in a group conversation that will eventually go quiet and get buried under other, unrelated chats.

What guests actually want instead

Most guests are happy to share their photos, they just want it to be quick and not require a new account. That's really the whole ask: something as easy as a group chat, without functioning like one. A dedicated shared album, reachable with one link or a QR code scan, keeps every photo at full resolution, organised in one place that belongs to you specifically, not scattered across a conversation that will eventually get muted and forgotten.

Your wedding photos deserve a home, not a group chat that also happens to have photos in it somewhere. The upgrade doesn't need to be complicated: it just needs to be a place built for exactly this job.
