The couple runs the gallery and can remove anything in it. Only upload things you took or have the right to share. Everything is deleted when the event window ends. If you want your uploads taken down before then, email privacy@twirl.photos and we will sort it out.

01What this is

Twirl is made by Ciceroni VOF, a small company in the Netherlands. These Guest Terms cover what you agree to when you upload something to an event or fill in an RSVP.

They are short on purpose. You did not sign up for anything, you do not have an account, and you are here because someone invited you to their wedding. A twenty page contract would be absurd. The longer Terms of Service apply to the person who bought and set up the event, not to you.

02You do not need an account

You got here with a link or a QR code and the event password. That is all it takes. We do not ask you to register, we do not ask for a phone number, and there is nothing to install. If you type your name when you upload, that is so the couple knows who sent what. It is a free text field, nothing checks it, and you are not obliged to use your full legal name.

03What happens when you upload

  • Your photographs, videos and voice memos go into the couple's event gallery at full resolution.
  • The couple, and anyone they have made a co-host, can see them, download them and delete them.
  • Depending on how the couple set the event up, other guests may be able to see them too.
  • Photo files often carry hidden information such as the time taken, the camera used, and sometimes the location. If that matters to you, turn off location tagging in your camera app before the day.
  • Everything is deleted when the event window ends. The couple chooses when that is. Twirl is not a permanent archive and your uploads will not sit on our servers indefinitely.
  • Keep your own copies. Twirl is a sharing tool, not a backup. Uploading here does not mean you can safely clear your phone, and if you do clear it, the photograph exists in one place instead of two. Keep the originals.
  • Voice memos are the exception. If you record one directly in Twirl rather than uploading an existing file, it may exist nowhere else. If that recording matters to you, ask the couple to download it and send it to you. Our email carries no open tracking and no click tracking, and there is no analytics of any kind on event pages. We do not measure how long you spent looking at anything.

We do not sell your content, publish it anywhere, use it in our own marketing, or use it to train artificial intelligence models.

04Only upload what you have the right to upload

By uploading, you are confirming three things:

  • You took it, or you otherwise have the right to share it.
  • You are not infringing anyone's copyright. A photograph you found online, or one a professional photographer took, is not yours to upload unless they said it was.
  • The people in it would be reasonably comfortable with it appearing in a private gallery that the couple and possibly other guests can see. If someone at the event has said they do not want to be photographed, respect that. If you took a picture of someone in a state they would not want shared, do not upload it. That last point is the one that actually matters at a wedding. A photograph of a person is that person's data as much as your creative work, and they have rights over it. Use the judgement you would use if you were showing the picture around at the reception.

05What is not allowed

Do not upload:

  • Anything illegal.
  • Sexual or intimate images of anyone without their consent, and never any sexual content involving a child. Content of this kind is removed immediately and reported to the authorities. There are no circumstances in which we will treat this as a grey area.
  • Content that harasses, threatens, humiliates or bullies anyone, including as a joke.
  • Content that incites violence or hatred.
  • Someone else's copyrighted work.
  • Images or recordings of people who have asked not to be photographed or recorded.
  • Malware, or files designed to break something.
  • Anything unrelated to the event. This is a wedding gallery, not general file storage. You are also asked not to share the event link or password with people who were not invited. It is the only thing keeping the gallery private.

06The couple runs the gallery

The couple hosting the event decides what happens in it. They can delete your uploads, edit the guest list, change what other guests can see, and close the whole event whenever they want. They do not need to ask you and they do not need a reason.

In data protection terms, they are the controller of everything in the event and Twirl is the processor working for them. That is not a technicality. It means the person with authority over your photograph is the couple, not us, and if you want something changed the fastest route is usually to ask them.

07Flagging, and when we step in

  • If you see something in a gallery that should not be there, flag it. There is a control on the content itself. Tell us why if you can.
  • Flags do not delete anything automatically. They surface the content to the couple, who decide.
  • We do not read through galleries or monitor content proactively, and we are not required to.
  • We will remove content ourselves, without waiting for the couple, where it is clearly unlawful, where it appears to have been uploaded without the consent of someone shown in it, or where leaving it up risks real harm. We can also suspend an event entirely.
  • If you think we got a removal wrong, email hello@twirl.photos. A person will read it.

08Children

Children are at weddings and children will end up in photographs. That is normal and we are not going to pretend otherwise. A few things worth saying:

  • A photograph of a child is that child's personal data, and the people responsible for decisions about it are the child's parents or guardians.
  • If you are photographing someone else's child, use the same judgement you would use before posting it anywhere. If you would hesitate, do not upload it.
  • If you are a parent or guardian and you want a photograph of your child removed, email privacy@twirl.photos. We treat these as urgent and we will act on them ourselves rather than waiting for the couple if there is any doubt at all.
  • Galleries are password protected and are not indexed by search engines, so this is a private setting rather than a public one. That reduces the risk but does not remove it. We do not run facial recognition or any other biometric matching on uploaded content.

09Getting your data deleted

You never made an account, but you still have full rights under the GDPR over your own personal data, including your uploads, your name, and your RSVP answers. You can ask for a copy of it, ask for it to be corrected, and ask for it to be deleted.

Two routes:

Route
Ask the couple
How it works
They can delete a photograph from their dashboard in seconds
When to use it
Fastest, and usually the easiest conversation. Best for ordinary "please take that one down" situations.
How it works
Tell us which event (the link, the couple's names, or the event code all work), what you uploaded or what you appear in, and what you want done
When to use it
When you would rather not ask the couple, or when it is not straightforward

If you come to us, here is what happens. We acknowledge within five working days. Because the couple is the controller, we normally pass the request to them and support them in answering it, which is what the law requires of a processor. Where the content is clearly unlawful or appears to have been shared without the consent of the person shown, we act straight away without waiting for anyone. Either way we tell you what happened.

It is free. We will not ask you to prove your identity with formal documents unless the request is one where getting it wrong would cause harm, for instance if you are asking us to hand over data rather than delete it. If we do have to check, we will ask for as little as possible.

You can also complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or to the equivalent authority where you live.

10Your RSVP

If the couple asked for a meal choice or dietary requirements, your answer goes to them, and only to them. Some answers can reveal things that are legally sensitive, such as a religious dietary restriction or an allergy. You do not have to answer those questions. If you would rather tell the couple directly and not type it into a form, that is completely fine.

You can usually come back and edit your RSVP later using the same link.

11The boring but necessary bit

  • Twirl is provided as it is. We work hard to keep it running but we do not guarantee it will always be available.
  • We are not responsible for what the couple does with the gallery, for what other guests upload, or for disagreements between guests.
  • Our liability to you as a guest is limited to the extent the law allows. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, for intent or deliberate recklessness, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
  • These terms are governed by Dutch law. If you are a consumer, you keep the protections of the law where you live.
